Marie Stopes Internationalhas been working to improve reproductive healthcare in Viet Nam since1989. With donor help and support from all over the world,  

Marie Stopes InternationalViet Nam (MSI Viet Nam) strives to create innovative and useful projects thataddress unmet needs and provide sustainable outcomes for communities in Viet Nam.

In co-operation with localpartners, MSI Viet Nam provides direct servicesto the community through an expanding network of reproductive health and familyplanning clinics. Currently, MSI Viet Nam has 11 centres located throughout the nation in:

Hanoi

Nghe An

Ha Tinh

Da Nang

Khanh Hoa

Ho Chi Minh City

Binh Duong

Can Tho

The centres are staffed bya team of professional doctors and nurses whose first priority is always theirclients’ needs and well-being. A very high standard of care is provided in awarm, friendly and sympathetic environment.

Thereproductive health services in these clinics include a full range of:

  • modern contraception methods
  • general reproductive health checks including breast screening and
    pap-smears
  • pregnancy care
  • treatment for reproductive tract infections and sexually transmitted infections
  • unwanted pregnancy termination
  • HIV Voluntary Counselling and Testing

To date, MSI Viet Nam has provided a comprehensiverange of reproductive health and family planning servicesto more than 650,000 clients, and has conducted information, education andcommunication sessions reaching more than two million people.

MSI Viet Nam has also been implementing a number ofsmall and large scale projects for a variety of donors from across the worldwhich are focused on:

  • improving the sexual and reproductive health status of vulnerable groups such as migrant workers in cities and industrial areas, and poor women in rural and remote areas
  • developing a model of youth friendly services for adolescents and youths
  • improving maternal and child health by developing the capacity of traditional birth attendants in Vietnam’s northern mountainous province of Lao Cai
  • integrating quality voluntary counseling and testing for HIV into existing clinics, targeting high risk and vulnerable groups including youth
  • building reproductive health capacity among the public service providers at Commune Health Station level, including maternal and child health / family planning through governmental social franchising
  • social franchising through building a network and capacity of the  private reproductive and family planning sector in Viet Nam.

Withits long term commitment to the people it serves, MSI Viet Nam ensures that allits centres and programmes are sustainable. Donor support enables MSI Viet Namto subsidise the costs of servicesand improve accessibility for the poor and vulnerable might not otherwisereceive services, especially inremote and rural areas of Viet Nam. MSI Viet Nam also enhances the capacityof local reproductive health programmes and NGOs through development projects.Currently MSI Viet Nam is focusing on Output Based Aid programmes thatintegrate private and public partnerships to make a total impact on both demandand supply sides.
