Becoming a Country Page Contributor on this Web Site
Please read the following carefully before you complete the form and submit an application
to become a Country Page Contributor.
Introduction
One of the central elements of www.globalsafeabortion.org will be its Country Pages.
It is envisaged that, in time, every country on the planet will be represented with
its own specific country page.
These pages will:
- detail the current legal status of abortion in country
- outline the history and social background of abortion in country
- provide at minimum a quarterly update on any political, legislative, social or medical
news about abortion in country, whether such news is positive or negative
- contain summaries of relevant news coverage on the issue of abortion and related
subjects in country
- house a country specific library resource and
- maintain a country specific calendar of significant and relevant dates and events.
The Site Managers (Marie Stopes International) wants the Country Pages to be as
relevant, topical and up to the minute as possible, providing the very latest in
news and information relevant to the issue of abortion in each of the countries
represented on the site.
In order to achieve this objective, the Site Managers recognises the fundamental
need to engage with local pro-choice agencies which are at work in country, which
have the relevant knowledge of the issues and which can react quickly to the abortion
agenda as it shifts and changes.
Who can be a Country Page Contributor?
Marie Stopes International is looking for pro-choice, in-country agencies to volunteer
to be Country Page Contributors which do one or more of the following:
- provide relevant services in settings where abortion is legal
- advocate or campaign for legal reform where abortion is largely proscribed by law
or
- broadly represent the interests of women’s health and rights
Country Page Contributors can be:
- a grass roots agency, campaign group or self help organisation
- a country office of a non-governmental organisation (NGO)
- a civil society organisation
- an umbrella group or organisation representing a group or collective of like-minded
organisations
- a clinical service provider
- a law firm actively engaged in advocating for legal reform or
- any other interested / relevant organisation.
In certain circumstances the Site manager may consider an individual as a Country
Page Contributor provided s/he can demonstrate the relevant knowledge of the situation
in-country and make the commitment to fulfil his or her responsibilities to the
Country Page.
What will a Country Page Contributor need to provide?
As a Country Page Contributor you will be asked to supply the following:
In the Set Up phase:
- a written summary of the current legal and social status of abortion in country
- a written summary of the past and recent history of abortion in country
- a latest news update, the first of future quarterly updates on all that has happened
in the past few months in country
- a summary of your organisation and its role in country, including any logo, address
and telephone numbers and links to your own web sites if appropriate and
- any relevant country or region specific documents / research papers and publications
for the resource library
On a regular, ongoing basis:

quarterly updates on all the latest relevant developments in country for the latest
news section and any newly published and relevant country or region specific
documents / research papers and publications for the resource library.
In special circumstances:
- where any news or development which breaks between quarterly updates and which you
consider important enough to merit a special news update.
What does a Country Page Contributor receive in return?
Regrettably Marie Stopes International is not in a position to offer any financial
incentive or reimbursement to any of its Country Page Contributors. Nevertheless,
in fulfilling this role you and your organisation will:
- receive publicly credited acknowledgement by and association with a unique global
collaborative effort aiming to eradicate unsafe abortion and bring about safe, legal
abortion for all the world’s women
- visible branding – including your organisation’s logo, contact details, links to
your own web site etc and
- the opportunity to be perceived as one of the leading and most influential actors
in the field of abortion in country.
